For Liberty boys lacrosse supporters, 2024 was a rollercoaster season. Already with a strong defense, it was an evolving offense that became the key for the Lions down the final stretch of the season.

After a rough start, coach Steve Fabian made some adjustments, turned up the pace and worked some young players into the mix to shake things up and overwhelm opponents with talent from all angles.

As a result, the Lions peaked at the right time, beating two county opponents in playoff rematches to take the Class 1A West Region I championship. They kept their hot streak going, reaching the program’s first state title game in over 15 years. The Lions offense scored double-digit goals in three straight playoff games during the historic run.

For his efforts, Liberty’s Steve Fabian has been named 2024 Carroll County Times boys lacrosse Coach of the Year.

“Steve and his coaching staff did an excellent job this year,” Liberty athletic director Ed DeVincent said in a statement. “The team started off slow but got better each game and were peaking at the end of the year. As AD, I want to see improvement through the year and that was accomplished and was rewarded by making it to the state championship.”
